It's hard to know how to feel when the world is on fire.

Watching from afar, I feel shame at how comfortable I have it compared to the hopelessness some must feel. Civilians are taking up arms having done nothing to deserve the fight.

It's in these moments that I wonder,

"What's the point?"

Who cares about music when you can't hear it from the deafening gunfire?

What's the value in audio engineering when people risk imprisonment for protesting their own president’s vile war?

I don't know if I have any Ukrainian followers but it saddens me that somewhere on the streets of Kyiv there might be a person who had to put down their keyboard to pick up a Kalashnikov.

They have to defend themselves from death so they can create another day.

It’s easier to tear down than build and it’s during these days of destruction that it’s hard to bother building when the rubble burns from afar.

But if you’re reading this with the same embarrassed ease as I am writing, there’s nothing stopping you from creating something inspired by these events.

Because creativity is the point.

Make your creative outlet the vehicle of your emotion.

Even if you feel helpless. Especially if you feel angry.

And when the dust settles, I hope they will join you - inspired by heartbreak, heroism, and hope - to make good art.
