I'm writing this email with my entire comic book collection strewn around me.
Bendis. Loeb. Morrison. King. Snyder. Gaiman. Slott.
I could name so many more high-profile authors but those are just some of my favorites off
the top of my head.
Ennis. Ellis. (whew...almost forgot those guys..they seem like the type of guys who would
not take kindly to being forgotten...)
If you recognize the names above, I'm sure we'd make fast friends.
But if you're the boomer blowhard who thinks comics are still for kids, let me just say how
sorry I am for you. It must be hard to be such a loser.
Some of the best storytelling happens inside graphic novels and you can learn a lot about
snappy dialog from reading even just one comic book from Brian Michael Bendis.
But...why are all my favorite comic book authors sitting on the floor, you
ask?
Well they've all been boxed up because I'm renovating my home studio this
month.
I'm ripping up the floors to take care of some termite damage and because I'm already
"home" I thought I'd ALSO "Go Big!" and redo the entire room to start fresh.
So I'm flipping the studio workstation to the other wall and putting up a whole wall
bookshelf behind me (I ain't done buying comics...), and converting the studio more into a "home office/media production room" than a "dark home recording studio" like it currently is.
All the black acoustic treatment on the walls can really drag your mood down and sooner or
later you're listening to Marilyn Manson (again..), painting your fingernails black (again...) and wearing eye-liner (again...).
Sometimes it's just time for a remix.
A time to pull all the faders down and put the tracks back together in a new
way.
Your mix will have the same tracks, but starting from scratch with a blank canvas allows
you to come up with something new and fresh.
So it's time for a bit of a Rebirth (™ DC Comics...) for the Audio Issues studio as I pivot
away from only talking about home studio mixing and start focusing on getting you results with your music production, music marketing, and your mindset to succeed.
