Have you ever written a song and not known whether it’s any good?

Or do you have a collection of songs and you don’t know which ones you should record for your album?

That’s exactly the type of situation many musicians, myself included, find themselves in all the time.

For instance, if you want to produce an EP and already have a collection of songs to record, you might not be sure the songwriting is as good as it can be.

Before you get a band together and record your songs, you want to make sure everything is planned out.

  • The song structure
  • The lyrics
  • The melody

And last but not least, brainstorm the instrumentation and arrangement.

If you want to make a good record you have to start with a great song. No amount of expensive microphones, fancy mixing techniques or dynamic mastering will make a boring song sound better.

I'm in the process of putting together an EP, and to make sure my songs are up to snuff before I start recording I'm getting a second opinion from a seasoned professional.

Would you care to join me?

I'm in Nashville this week so I'm taking the opportunity to team up with veteran producer Lij Shaw from Recording Studio Rockstars to bring you the Pre-Production Workshop.

In case you didn't know, Lij Shaw is a chart breaking, award winning music producer who's been making records for over 25 years and runs the incredibly popular podcast, Recording Studio Rockstars. His client list is too large to name just a few but a good list can be found here.

In our workshop, we’ll go through each aspect of the pre-production process until I’m positive my songs are as high quality as they can be.

If you’d like to learn how to use some of Lij’s wisdom for your own productions, join our workshop here.

We'll be airing the workshop live from his incredible Toy Box Studio and recording it for people who can't make the live event.

What You'll learn:

In your two hour workshop, we’ll cover how to make songs as good as possible before you even start the recording process. We'll discuss the importance of the song structure and arrangement, we'll strengthen the lyrics and melody, and we'll find the right tempo and key.

You'll be able to take the techniques we discuss in the workshop to strengthen your own songs or help other musicians make their productions even better.

Here’s what you’ll get:

  • The 2-hour live workshop where you learn all about the pre-production process.
  • Regular Q & A sessions throughout the workshop where we’ll answer your questions about pre-production.
  • Access to the replay after the workshop is over in case you can’t make the live event.

This is a one-time event because I'm staying in Nashville this week and hanging out with Lij, so make sure you enroll in our workshop today.

The workshop will air from 7 - 9 PM Central Time on Thursday, August 24th but the replay will be made available for anybody who enrolls.

Click here to reserve your ticket and learn how to take your songs from good to great.

Once you enroll you'll be on our workshop attendee list. We'll email you a link the day of the workshop that you can use to call in from the comfort of your own home studio. If you can't make the live event you'll get an email next week with the replay. Make sure you buy your ticket this week so you can access the replay.

Looking forward to seeing you there!
