If you think recording sessions are stressful, try being involved in a
pre-production session!
Yesterday, Lij and I did some prep for our pre-production workshop we're hosting later today and it was exciting and nerve wracking at the same time.
I gotta tell you, this pre-production session will be just as informative to me as it will to
you.
I'll be taking the role of the pupil and letting Lij's wisdom wash over me as we go through my songs, charting them out and thinking through each part of the arrangement.
Just from our prep work yesterday, we've already strengthened some of the songs:
- We slowed one of the songs down so that the emotion and feel could come through
correctly.
- We changed the melodic hook of a chorus to make it simpler and more singable.
- We realized that one of my songs didn't really have a chorus so we wrote a brand new one on the spot, taking the entire song to a new level.
We'll be showing you all those changes, in addition to talking about how you can strengthen lyrics, how you can chart out a song to
make it easy for session musicians to play on your record and how to find the right instrumentation and arrangement for your songs.
Plus, we'll spend time answering your questions and if we have time and you have an instrument handy, you might even have the ability to play us one of your songs!
Get your ticket to the Pre-Production Workshop here. Even if you can't make it tonight, we'll make the replay available to everyone who buys a ticket.
Looking forward to seeing you in there!
