Man oh man, you guys were fun to talk to yesterday.
I had back to back phone calls all afternoon and it was exciting to talk to you in person.
Like Tadas, who's a musician who wanted to learn more from the other side of the glass. We talked about tracking bass and I told him the well-known secret that a DI'd bass track is usually easier to work into a mix than an amped up signal #blasphemy #IDon'tCare #JustUseAnAmpSim
I also had a great conversation with Carson who's making metal from his Army barracks. I thought that was pretty hardcore. Not surprisingly, his main problem was making pro sounding mixes in a small space.
He had already read my Step By Step Mixing book but he needed more help separating instrument and using EQ, so I sent him a link to my very comprehensive and helpful EQ Strategies guide.
He was also interested in beefing up the sound of his drums because he was using a drum machine. So I sent him my Drum Mix Toolkit because I thought it would be a good resource to help him make his rock and metal drums punchier.
Even though many of you didn't really need my coaching, it was still fun to just say hi, send you some materials and have a quick chat.
Yesterday I told you about one of my students, Andy, who did a three-session program with me.
When asked about why he joined, he said:
"I have really wanted a mentor for audio production since I started buying educational resources a few years ago. Everyone comes into this with a different skill set, background of knowledge, and aptitude. So each person has different holes in their knowledge that require custom attention. When I received your first email offering this service I immediately replied that I wanted to join!"
Tomorrow I'll share what he got out of the program, but if you think you're interested in coaching, I'll be opening up a few more Start Calls tomorrow.
