Prepare to be blown away by this mix trick

If you're like most of my students, chances are your mixes are already pretty decent.

You kind of get how to mix.

You sorta know what to do with the faders to get a balance.

You know enough about EQ to get you close to the sound you hear in your head. Even though you may not fully understand compression, you can tweak the knobs until things start sounding good.

Believe me, compression is still a little bit of a mystery to me.

Even though I know what all the knobs do and I can navigate the compressor easily, I still feel like there's a little voodoo magic underneath that I don't understand.

Even so, with the basics of mixing down, you might feel like your mixes lack that extra 10% they need to compete with the professional mixes you hear on streaming services like Spotify - or on the radio.

Whenever you play your mix next to commercial records, you keep banging your head up against the wall because you mix sounds weaker than anything else you compare it to.

There's something missing and for some reason, you can't seem to figure out why.
