It was also a pretty embarrassing session for myself because I accidentally hit one of the members in the face with a Shure Sm7...
You know that moment you're trying to place a microphone in front of somebody's face and you're wrangling the mic stand without loosening the screws on the boom? And exactly when you pull too hard the boom comes loose and it flies much further than you intended, hitting the musician in the face.
Yep. Guilty. Talk about embarrassing. I'll turn in my engineering card now... :(
Luckily, it was an Sm7 with their built-in pop-filter so no teeth were harmed during the making of that session :)
And before you ask, no, it wasn't Trevor, who is very obviously standing in front of an Sm7 in the picture above.
The reason I bring up Moon Taxi is that I didn't realize it until yesterday that their record, "Daybreaker," was produced by Grammy-winning producer, Jacquire King. He's the master behind the new course, "Record Making with Jacquire King" along with Graham Cochrane from the Recording Revolution.
Not only does Jacquire have three Grammy Awards (Kings of Leon, Tom Waits, Buddy Guy), but he's racked up a whopping 30(!) Grammy nominations. Winning a Grammy is a major milestone of course, but even being nominated is a feat in itself.
Being able to take a course from such a high-profile producer is an incredible opportunity for you. The old way of cleaning toilets and getting coffee for the hotshots in the studio are over because you can simply bypass all that hassle and go straight for the real stuff you want to learn.
