Hi
there
I watched the oh-so-awesome movie Pirate Radio yesterday, about the rag-tag group of pirates playing rock 'n' roll on the British airwaves from the international waters outside of the U.K.
Elected officials at the time censored rock 'n' roll (devil's music and all that jazz), and were easily caught on the wrong side of history because rock 'n' roll isn't the devil; it's a slow-moving, fun-lovin' monster who transforms everybody it touches for the better.
All music is rock 'n' roll music in some way because rock 'n' roll isn't a musical genre. It's a way of life. A point of view. A manifesto for the misfits.
If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend it. The cast is incredible, the story is true, and the music is second to none.
We've come a long way since the censorship of governments. In "America," the FTC still thinks it has some power because it can still censor terrestrial radio statins.
I lasted all of two hours as a radio DJ because I immediately played a song that had swear words in it by accident.
In my book, agencies like the FTC are unnecessary gatekeepers. Dinosaurs desperately holding on to a power they don't realize we've already taken away from them.
You don't need permission to have a radio show anymore. You can create a podcast from your home studio tomorrow if you had something you felt the need to say.
Our regular guest contributor Caleb Murphy has curated 9 podcasts for home studio musicians and producers like yourself.
So if you're looking for voices that help you improve your music career, whether that's by improving your recordings, showing you behind the scenes of popular productions, hearing the stories from the trenches, learning savvy business skills to improve your career, or understanding the mystery of mastering, we've got it all for you today.
A quick question before you leave today: If I were to create a podcast, what do you think it should be about? What is it about the newsletter you like that could be made into a podcast?
Hit reply and let me know. I'd love to read your suggestions.
