The Naturalization test for American citizenship has a pool of 100 questions.
They randomly pick 10 for you to answer. You have to get 6 of them right to pass the test.
If it was a letter grade, you'd need a D to become American.
But the test is a formality. If you get to the formality, you've already passed the test. The real test is navigating the jungle of paperwork, having the money to spend on filing fees and defeating the big-boss of bureaucracy.
If you have a great song, with a good arrangement and a solid production, mixing is a formality. You have to utterly fail at mixing to make a great song sound bad.
Last time I checked there are hundreds of plug-ins available to you. You don't need to know how to use all of them.
You only need to get five of them to get your mix right:
- EQ for separation and balance
- Compression for tightness
- Reverb for space
- Delay for depth and effects
- Saturation for sweetening
If you need to pass the mixing test, those are the only ones you need to know how to use.

P.S.
This post was inspired by the fact that I'm taking my American Naturalization test tomorrow. Wish me luck.
