I watched a classic movie this past weekend.
Or at least, that's how my wife pitched it to me.
Two hours later I had begrudgingly endured the 1999 classic hit, 10 Things I Hate About You with Julia Stiles and Heath Ledger.
It's funny, there's a scene at the prom in the end when there's a live band playing for the high school crowd.
And I joked about having a live band at my high school dances all the time, and my wife just turned to me, stunned and exclaimed, "You actually HAD bands?!?" as if this was just made up by Hollywood to make the movies better.
My American Facebook friends agreed: No bands.
Well, turns out, in Iceland, we watched those movies and took them as fact. We didn't realize this was all made up, so I actually grew up with really tight live bands playing the hits multiple times a semester.
I guess...if you're looking for an alternate reality, maybe all you need to do is grow up in Iceland?
In a way, the experience gave me a perspective on what a really tight performance should sound like.
These bands would tour ALL the time, so they performed like a well-oiled machine where every member of the band executed their parts flawlessly, playing the song tight in the pocket.
But just like you may not have had bands at every school dance, you may not have bands that actually sound tight step into your studio.
The band may sound fine live, but when they come into the studio, suddenly the performances feel sloppy and you know you'll need a lot of editing to make those takes sound tight.
But you do it anyway because you set yourself apart from the amateurs. You consider yourself a professional and you demand only the highest standards.
The Gold Standard, as my buddy Jordan Valeriote puts it.
The Gold Standard of Production is a simple mantra that you can repeat to yourself:
"When I'm working on music, I’m going to do whatever I can in my power to make that project sound as good as it possibly can… "
If you want a long-lasting career, sometimes you have to do whatever it takes to feel proud of the music you're working on, even if the tracks are unlistenable at the start.
Let's put it in 10 Things I Hate About You terminology:
If you don't work with Heath Ledger when he's an annoying teenage heartthrob, you can't ever take credit for having worked with him once he becomes The Joker.
You never know where those bands end up, and if you make sure that everything you do is up to professional standards, chances are some of those bands will go on and do great things.
Great things YOU can put on your credit list!
And if you need training that's designed to get you up to those same standards, Jordan's Professional Production System is the way to go.
He's opening up this exclusive bundle of his flagship courses for only a few more days now so make sure you grab it before it goes away.

Here's what people have said about his Pro Production System:
“I Was Able To Quit My Part-Time Job And Am Finally Working At My Studio Full Time.”
“I was working on a mix of a song that I wasn’t happy with and decided to mix it from scratch after watching this course. I, and the band, couldn’t believe the difference. It was on a totally different level. Everything was more clear, punched a lot more, sounded bigger and just straight up more professional.
Even mixing non ‘hardcore’ tracks is coming out better than ever before and I’m starting to get a lot more jobs just mixing.
Since watching these, business has improved so much that I was actually able to quit my shitty part time job and am now finally working at my studio full time.” — Nick G.
“My Raw Tracks Now Sound Better Than My Completed Mixes Did Before Taking This Course!”
“Jordan’s course made me a far better recording engineer. It was quite an eye opener and a total change of mindset. My raw tracks now sound better than my completed mixes did before. This course is an absolute no brainer. Do it. NOW!” — Thomas G.
“Your Lessons Have Improved My Recording Skills By A Million And I’ve Been Getting Tons Of Clients Because Of It.”
“I just want to say thank you so much for these courses. I've been getting more and more clients coming to me, wanting to work with me because of the quality of my work.
Your lessons have improved my recording skills by a million. I'm actually making a decent income on my dream - more than I thought I would this early. I'm even able to upgrade some of the gear I desperately need solely off the money I've made from my little bedroom studio!” — Chris C.
“I Finally Quit My Full-Time Job And Am Now Comfortably Mixing Full-Time With Projects Booked For Months.”
“I’m glad to say that after 3 years of sticking to it, I finally managed to quit my full-time job and am comfortably mixing full-time with projects booked-up for months. You upped my mixing game, my drum editing game and my recording game.” — John H.
“I Don’t Cringe When My Mix Comes On Next To A Professional Production Anymore. I Can NOW Mix To A Commercial Standard.”
“If someone had told me 7 years ago the things I learned inside the Professional Production System, I would have saved TONS of time and money. I can NOW mix/master to a commercial standard, and owe it all to you! When I put my mixes on shuffle on my iPod, I don’t cringe when my mix comes on next to a professional production anymore.” — DC M.
