Is this for beginners or advanced engineers?

This is for anyone who wants to add that extra 10% mastering polish to make their mixes sound like professional records.

This course will not teach you how to mix, but it will teach you how to take your mix to the next level using linear phase EQ, multi-band compression, and limiting to increase the power and punch of your mixes. I only do [insert random music genre here]. Will this help me?

You can use the methods inside Master Your Mixes on any genre of music. My students work in every style of music, from rock, country, and folk to EDM, hip-hop, and pop. Master Your Mixes currently has an electronica mastering walkthrough during the course, as well as an additional rock mastering walkthrough as a bonus.

You'll also get mastering walkthroughs from a few select students, with music ranging from jazz and folk to indie rock so that you can see a broad selection of different genres.

At the end of this course, you'll have all the knowledge you need to create loud and powerful records, no matter what genre you're working in.

"But music is just a hobby to me, why should I care about mastering?"

A hobby is something you’re passionate about. An "amateur" musician is a lover of making music. If you want to be proud of the music you make in your free time as a hobby, you should know how to do it properly. Learning to master your mixes is the crucial final process to make your songs sound like the records you hear on the radio. If you want people to actually listen to your music instead of skipping your song because they're too quiet and weak, you need to know how to master your music.

Do you have any big-name credits that you've worked with?

My credits are my students' success. Thousands of home studio musicians and engineers have learned to confidently finish their mixes through my Audio Issues education in the last 10 years. Listening to their great-sounding music, knowing that I taught them how to do it themselves is all the credit I need.

Can't I just learn this on Youtube?

You can certainly search for videos teaching you generic advice on mastering, but no video will tie all of the plug-ins together like this to show you how to use the correct processing on the master bus in such a way that you learn how to take your finished mix and transform it into a loud and powerful record. Instead, you'll end up wading through poorly explained techniques and watching a bunch of ads.

But should I really master my OWN mixes?

Don't discount the power of knowing how to master your mixes because every time you send a mix over to a client or to your bandmates they'll want your mix to sound like a mastered record. There's simply no getting around that. If your mixes are quiet, they'll think your skills are lacking.

Every mixing engineer should know how to master their mixes, even if they prefer to send their songs to a mastering engineer because who knows if you ever end up mastering other people's mixes?

Wouldn't you like to know the process of taking an unmastered mix and transforming it into a professionally mastered record? That's what Master Your Mixes will teach you.

Is an unmastered mix ever going to sound as good as a professionally mastered commercial mix

No. That's why it's so important that you learn how to master your mixes. If you want your mixes to compete, they have to sound mastered.

Can't I just use LANDR or an e-mastering robot?

Online robot mastering services won't listen to your music the same way a human being does. They don't take your genre, feel, or emotion into account because...well they're robots. At that point, you're only left with the option of choosing Loud, Louder, or LOUDEST! which often ends up overcompressing your mixes and sometimes even distorting your low-end.

If you're serious about mixing, mastering, and releasing your songs you're better off doing it yourself so you have complete quality control over the entire process. Once you learn how to master your mixes you'll be able to carefully tweak the low-end frequency response, glue the bottom-end together, and increase overall loudness without accidental distortion.
