Let me be real with you.
Things aren’t easy these days.
This past year has been riddled with uncertainty. The anxiety permeates throughout society at every level, and I feel like mankind is collectively hyperventilating into a paper bag.
However, this is not the time to give up on what you want to achieve. If anything, you should double down on your ambitions because you never know if you'll get the opportunity again.
And what you want to achieve starts with one question: What is your definition of success?
Some define success as seven zeroes in their bank accounts.
Some define success as seven hours of free time every day.
Some define success as simply waking up and being grateful they get another day, even if it's a weird time to be alive.
Success is really just what you define it to be based on what you want to achieve.
If you think you’re successful but still have that lingering feeling that no matter what you do it’s still not enough - you’re not alone.
I would consider myself successful. Having a best-selling book and thousands of students all around the world has to fit into some arbitrary category of success.
And make no mistake, success is arbitrary because it’s in the eye of the beholder.
And these last few months of uncertainty, crisis, and COVID raging across the globe it’s become harder to feel a part of something. We're isolated and we mourn the social gatherings from before, whether they were giant concerts, intimate theater performances, or conference keynotes
I’ve been in bands most of my life and I used to play live regularly. That energy and feeling of connection with others has vanished. The feedback loop of performing your all in front of the audience, and the crowd giving you energy in return - that’s gone now.
What has kept me sane these past few months is my Insiders community. It’s no live performance fix, but being able to listen to my students’ work, give feedback and serve them in order to help them improve their music has been very gratifying when there is so much less gratification available to us in the world.
You can’t turn on the news without feeling despair. You can’t scroll social media without an exhausting feeling of emptiness - a lack of social contact even though you have direct access to your hundreds if not thousands of friends.
Audio Issues Insiders is where I help you develop as music producers. In an era where artist development is a thing of the past (one of the things the major labels actually did well back in the day), Insiders helps you develop your music production skills, giving you accountability to keep creating while giving you constructive feedback to improve your work.
It’s where music production skills and artists' development meet whatever “life coaching” is, and it’s helped my members achieve their own definitions of success.
Whether you want to release a song/month just for the joy of releasing your records like Nic Hamilton...
Overcome the anxiety of your recording skills to the point of confidently knowing the exact process to get from a song idea to a finished record like Eric L'Esperance...
Or even finally quitting your day job because you've started earning an income from your mixing and mastering skills like Tim Mann.
Those are some of the things my Insiders members are achieving this year, despite the shutdown and the music industry's free-fall.
We are opening soon and we’d love to have you if you think you have what it takes to achieve your definition of success.
