Forget about inspiration and embrace the elbow grease

There's one movie you need to watch.

The documentary on The Eagles.

It's very insightful and inspiring on so many levels when it comes to music.

One of the clips that stood out was when Glenn Frey was talking about Jackson Browne's work ethic when it came to songwriting.

I found the clip on Youtube so you can watch it. Only 2:46 of inspiring speech.

Elbow Grease

That's the most important thing. Getting up every day and doing it again.

Inspiration is a myth. It's about hard work and dedication.

Inspiration is like that hot girl in high-school that uses you and once in a blue moon you get something in return to keep your hopes up.

It's not just about waiting around hoping for something to happen.

It's about taking action and creating something to become better at what you do.

It's the same with mixing.

You can't hope to get better by listening to music and watching tutorials.

That's part of it of course, but at the end of the day it's the finished mixes that count.

Sometimes it's hard to find songs to practice on.

That's where my guys at Dueling Mixes come in. They help you finish your mixes while they teach you how to improve.

That's what I think every up and coming mixing engineer needs:

A little bit of training, a little bit of inspiration and a whole lot of elbow grease.
