Who says acoustic guitarists can't rock?I also actually had a pretty
nasty cold and every time I sang I wished I had a graphic EQ I could cut 1 kHz to get rid of my nasalness ;)
But I digress...
I feel lucky being able to play live so much. Performing is amazing and putting yourself out there like that is a very cathartic and honest experience for me.
Even if we play new songs that
aren't exactly ready, I like jumping into the deep end because it teaches you how to swim.
Man I'm on fire with the metaphors today!
Another way I'm putting ourselves out there is through our Youtube channel.
Because I'm an engineer and love talking about the technical aspects of production I use our
Long Wait Youtube channel to talk about how we produce our music.
It's not just the typical "how to record vocals or guitar" (although I do that sometimes), but it's more geared towards what we're trying to convey with our production decisions.
Take one of our songs, "Perfect Pocket" for instance.
This song has been multiple different versions since I originally wrote it but we
finally settled on a version that most defines how we sound as a band.
And that sound is definitely something people have started recognizing us for.
On the Youtube channel I also talk a little bit about mixing, and my drummer sometimes comes in and does cool videos about recording drums.
But we don't only do these videos just for us. We hope that we give you some production ideas along the way as well.
Take a Tour of Our Music
With Us!
That's why we have an ongoing Patreon page where you can support our videos while getting something cool in return!
I've put together a cool Patreon reward for all you Audio Issues engineers that like our music and want some multi-tracks to practice with.
For only $7/month (and you can cancel at any time), you'll get all our multi-tracks to practice your mixing with.
That includes all our studio
recordings from our first EP, "Back Home to Blue" as well as our sparse acoustic session we did at The Potluck Audio Conference where we recorded with some killer ribbon microphones from Cloud Microphones and sweet condensers from Audio Technica. Think about those recordings as an exercise in making the most of a sparse arrangement. (Or even add to them if you'd like!)
Plus, the multitracks to both "Dispute" and "Perfect Pocket" that you've probably heard already.
Exclusive Audio Issues bonus
That's not all actually...
If you pledge $7 on Patreon (and even if you only
stay for one month), I will personally send you my 30 minute mix walkthrough of Perfect Pocket I did that's only available in my Crowd Audio Playground Premium area.
For a sneak preview of what the video includes, check out a part of the video here where I go through what I
learned after getting feedback on my initial final mix and how much of a difference a second set of ears made to my final mix.
