Here are my goals, what are yours?

I'm reading this book called "The Art of Non-Conformity" by Chris Guillebeau.

It's so good I emailed the author when I was halfway through the book just to ramble on about how much I could relate to it.

I felt like a school-girl with a crush...

And he wrote back!

See how small the world it?

A swanky website makes you look important and busy. But we're all human and we like to interact with each other.

Which is why I try to respond to every email you guys send me.

(Even if it's just a "Thanks! I'm glad my tips helped!")

But I digress...

In the book he talks about having one-year goals, five-year goals and lifetime goals.

I like this idea because writing down your goals or at least having thought about them in some shape or form makes them real.

By doing that you've already made the first step.

For instance, here are my music and audio goals for Audio Issues and The Long Wait.

One-year goals:

  • Release two new  in-depth training products (I'd tell you what they are but I like to keep you in suspense).
  • Release first full-length album with The Long Wait

Five-year goals:

  • Be a panelist at AES or another audio conference or convention (I actually reached this goal this year but the conference fell through...sad face)
  • Go on an American tour with The Long Wait, touring both the southwest (where we're located) and the south (where we have roots)

Lifetime goals:

  • Make albums with bands all over the world (I've already made albums in three different countries so it's just a matter of going from there...)
  • Win a Grammy (the thing about big hairy audacious goals is that they're supposed to be exactly that....big. hairy. audacious. crazy. goals)

So those are just some of my goals, what are yours?

Have you written them down?

Have you even thought about what you want to achieve at all?

Take 30 minutes and write something down.

And here's a secret. You don't have to tell anybody about it. If you're worried that they're stupid (which they're not) or that you're afraid you won't reach them (everybody's afraid remember) you can just keep them to yourself because that's who they matter to the most.

How's that for some Sunday morning wisdom?

Ok, well...if one of your goals is to get off your ass and learn some new tips and tricks on recording and mixing go on over to the Recording & Mixing Strategies page and grab my training products.

It's my 30th birthday TOMORROW so that's why they're 30% off until tomorrow night.

No wonder I'm in such a goal-oriented mood....big 3.0...
