The second Yule Lad to
come down from the mountains is Giljagaur.
The English translation of his name is Gully Gawk and he "hides in gullies, waiting for an opportunity to sneak into the cowshed and steal milk."
What a weirdo...
But as always, he brings you a gift:
Make sure that your arrangement is interesting. Use mutes to create contrast and dynamics between parts of your song. Don't have one instrument play the same thing throughout. It's important to mix things up by
adding and subtracting instruments in your arrangement to engage the listener. Add overdubs to add power to a chorus. Create a big intro but mute most instruments into the verse to create a dynamic transition. Look at your song as a sequence of mountains and valleys. Add extra harmonies or overdubs in later parts of the song to keep increasing the impact of the music. Once you have a strong arrangement, the song will shine.
That's what Giljagaur had to offer.
Tomorrow
we'll be looking at the gift of microphones.
See you then,
Björgvin
