It's a funny thing, customer service.
It doesn't revolve around you. It's all about the customer.
Shocking right?
Because at the end of the day, if the customer's not happy, you
haven't really done your job.
If you do any sort of engineering, mixing or mastering for a living, then you should take this next part to heart.
Do what the customer wants and swallow your pride if he wants to go in a different direction than you. He's (hopefully) paying you, so you should do as he
says right?
Also...Go the Extra Mile
I had a metal band in here recently that recorded a single in the home studio. I did an initial rough mix and then I got some revisions back that were fairly straightforward. They loved the aggressiveness of the initial mix so I was happy to really make the mix the best it
could be.
So not only did I tweak the mix according to their requests but I also took the liberty of adding some creativity on my part to add to the song.
In this instance there was a slower, clean sounding interlude part bridging the two metalcore-sounding parts together. It sounded a little empty to me so I took the
final feedback from the distorted electric guitars and ran it through a carefully automated reverb that ran into another infinite delay that created this modulated soundscape in the background.
It made that part stand out so much more and they were incredibly happy with the final product.
Just because I spent a little
extra time and went the extra mile.
They were happy with the result, I got to work on some fun music and I got paid for my efforts.
That's win/win to me.
At the end of the day, if you get to be involved with music creation, whether it's recording,
mixing or mastering, the end result is what matters to the musician himself. Because if the artist isn't happy, then you haven't really done your job.
If you can give them a different perspective with your mixes that they love, that's great! If not, go with what they like.
I like a happy client. That's why I offer
a full, no-fuss 100% money back guarantee on my products.
A happy customer is a repeat customer. Think about that when you're doing your next project.
