Happy Þorláksmessa
everyone!
That's the day us Icelanders eat putrified Skate because it's the worst food you can eat. In comparison, anything you eat on Christmas Eve is delicious.
We're a weird bunch. It wasn't much longer than 100 years ago we were still eating the soles of our shoes to keep us alive.
Even that's better than putrified skate. Terribly gross fucking food.
Anyways, I wanted to give you a couple reminders before the weekend.
1. Enter the
Christmas Mixing Challenge
You have until tomorrow night to finish mixing "Santa" to enter the Christmas Mixing Challenge.
All you need to do is download the multi-tracks here, mix it to the best of your abilities and leave your mix as a comment on this post.
If you need help with mixing I recommend a couple of my free articles:
The winner will be picked randomly on Christmas Day so it's more a matter of finishing a mix and entering for a chance to win than spend hours upon hours carefully crafting your best mix.
So get off your lazy holiday ass and finish one mix this month!
2. Home Studio Corner's 50% Off Sale
Joe Gilder of
Home Studio Corner emailed me this morning about his sale. He was giving his readers some challenges to do over the holidays. The first one is pretty relevant to my Christmas Mixing Challenge so I'm including it for you here:
"One-Hour Mixing Challenge
This one is the easiest. It only takes an hour, and you may surprise yourself.
- Get yourself a set of multi-tracks. (Mix Practice is a good place to start. It's half-off until the end of the year. [Björgvin's note: You can also use my free Santa multi-tracks])
- Schedule a one-hour session with yourself in your studio.
- Set a timer for 60 minutes.
- Try to completely mix the song in just one hour.
- When the
timer goes off, bounce out your final mix and share it with someone.
Will your 1-Hour Mix sound as good as a mix you spend days on? Maybe not. Maybe so. But there's a good chance you'll be surprised by how much you can accomplish in just an hour."
