7 Steps to a Successful Mix

If you're anything like me you just can't get enough of talking about mixing music.

My friend Lij over at Recording Studio Rockstars is the same way and he's putting together a two-day webinar with Josh Harris this weekend all about mixing.

Best of all, you can join live and send in your mix but you can also watch the replay at your convenience.

Use my code 'AI25' to get 25% off the two-day clinic and check out the details here.

Mixing can be broken down in multiple different ways but here's a good breakdown of what they'll be covering in the mix clinic.

  • Edits, and arrangements. How prepping the mix, and getting the track right first can have a huge impact on your final mix.
  • Levels, and panning. The brits call it "balancing" a mix for a good reason! This will help you avoid "fixing it if it ain't broke." One of the most common struggles of mixing is losing the magic that was there.
  • Subtractive EQ and harmonic balance. Learn how to create space for the tracks in your mix, and get everything to fit together for a clear punchy mix. No need to be spooked by all the possibilities in your multiband EQ.
  • Dynamic control. We will dive into compressors & limiters, and how to set them to breathe life into your mix while keeping things under control. The pros know it's less about which compressor you use and more about how you use it.
  • Reverb and delays. Mixing with FX and creating depth in your mix. This is where you get to make your mix interesting and stand out as professional.
  • Subgroups, master bus, and automation. How to glue your mix together so it sounds like a record. This is part of the secret sauce for mixing.
  • Making your mixes loud. This will be a bit of self-mastering to make sure that your mixes hold up for your clients, or just plain sound awesome where ever you listen to them, even in the car! We will also dive into referencing to make sure your mix holds up against you favorites.
