There's an Icelandic Yuletide tradition that I cherish to this day which I think you're gonna love.
It's the Jólabókaflóð or the "Christmas Book Flood" and it's had a major impact on my life.
Basically, every December all households in Iceland get a catalog of newly released book titles so that loved ones can give each other new books for Christmas.
I would scour the pages of this catalog every year, obsessively reading the descriptions of all the new titles. I would then find a big red marker, circle each book I wanted, and then carefully earmark the pages so that my parents would know what to give me.
It's not uncommon for almost the entire country to relax on Christmas Eve, cuddled up on the couch reading the brand-new book they got from underneath the tree.
This is such a foreign concept to some people that I am regularly tagged in Facebook posts to verify the veracity of this phenomenon.
And yes, once and for all, this is true. It basically describes my entire childhood after I learned to read.
In fact, statistically, 10% of the country will publish one book in their lifetime, and today I wanted to share my 8th book with you.
Since books are such a huge part of Icelandic culture, I thought it fitting to publish my new one on Christmas Eve.

If you want to transform your music hobby into a profitable and sustainable career, You Get What You Give is for you.
You Get What You Give is a business parable a la The Go-Giver that follows Casey, an aspiring music producer stuck in a dead-end job. Every day he leaves his dream of being a successful music producer behind as he clocks in at the office. One day, he rage-quits his job but realizes he has no idea how to find clients to replace his income. After a disastrous start, he meets a mentor who teaches him the success strategies he needs to make an impact and find success
with his music career.
Here's What Early Readers Have Been Saying:
"I haven't read a book quite like this. Bjorgvin manages to offer us readers loads of wisdom, both practical and philosophical, through an enjoyable and relatable story casually told in laymen's terms. It's clear that the wisdom he passes along is not just from research, but from years of experience, failures, and successes. I really enjoyed the story, the characters, and the sensory aspect of following the plot along with a Spotify
playlist of carefully curated tunes. I am a full-time professional musician, running my own music business for 7 years, and currently establishing my first project studio. There are concepts in here that I would have loved to know about when I was 16, just dreaming of a music career but feeling it was impossible; when I was in my late 20s, finally getting the guts to give it a go, and still now in my 30s there's so much here to apply to my growth, most importantly to define and focus on the
impact that I want to make in this world through my craft! It could have saved me years of trial and error, chasing shiny things that seem so alluring, but just left me unsatisfied. Even now, with 7 years under my belt, there was so much to glean and apply to my approach as a professional music maker. I highly recommend this book for folks in the music industry, or anyone who is looking for wisdom to help you on your creative path." -Shaun L'Esperance, Professional Musician and
Engineer.
"You will have so much fun devouring the pages to find out what happens to Casey, Noah, and Buttrock Barry that you won't realize you've learned how to launch a business. Essential reading for anyone who wants to learn how to earn money as a creative, consultant, or freelancer in the knowledge economy." -Caleb Warren Ph.D., Associate Professor of Marketing, University of Arizona.
You Get What You Give is a great example of the power of simplicity. It's easy for artists to get bogged down in ideas and theory and forget the discipline of actually executing the dang thing. This parable was a light and entertaining reminder of the power of routine, self-care, and knowing your worth. Well done! Will there be a sequel? I hope so." -Steven Tracy, Music Producer, and Studio Owner, Saint Cecilia
Studios.
I wrote this for any home studio musician, bedroom producer or aspiring audio engineer who wants to transform their music from a hobby into a sustainable and profitable music career. Similarly, these lessons also apply to any creative individual looking to create an income from their hobby.
What you will find inside the book are some of the most important lessons I've learned from growing a successful business in the music industry in the last ten years.
We'll follow Casey's story as he learns the mindset behind making an impact in his career, from the importance of routine and the power of value-based pricing, to understanding his clients and diversifying his income streams. I've found these lessons to be the core building blocks of a sustainable business and now you will have the opportunity to implement them in yours to grow your career.
Along the way, we will pause to consider the various mindsets you must have to make an impact with your own career. These little Success Strategies break up the chapters and are a chance for you to reflect on how you would implement what Casey is learning in your own life.
Let this short story about marketing, music, and making an impact be the inspiration you need to forge a path up your own mountain of success and find your own small wins along the way
