If you know anything about EQ you know there are really only three things to work with:
You find the frequency, decide on how narrow or wide you want the Q and then you use the gain to either cut or boost.
Simple right?
But there's another button on some EQ plug-ins that goes unnoticed.
And it can make the biggest difference of all.
The Polarity Switch
Sometimes mistakenly called the "phase" button, this switch can really help tighten up your low-end, especially when you have multi-miked instruments such as drums and guitars.
So don't ignore this button when you're doing your mix prep.
If you have two snare mics for example, or even just two drum samples, the polarity button can often drastically improve your source tracks.
Because as soon as you flip the polarity switch, sometimes those tracks can sound thicker and tighter.
All because of one switch.
EQ Helps You Every Part of the Way
Once you've prepped the polarity and made sure all your tracks are in phase, you may want to grab your EQ plug-in and start sculpting your mix.
