Mornin'
As the final tones of the album faded away in my studio yesterday I thought, "holy $"#!"
(Actually, I used the F word but there are some silly sensitive subscribers here that get all "THINK ABOUT THE CHILDREN!" when I say fuck in an email.)
And I stood there just shaking my head in awe.
I can't believe that entire album was written, recorded, produced, arranged, performed, mixed, and mastered by ONE guy...
Sometimes the album sounded like a rock band. Sometimes it sounded like the rock band invited some jazz cats into the studio to jam. And other times it sounded like the entire band was fired by the producer and replaced with some other band with an entirely different sound.
And yet, the album worked so well and flowed so effortlessly from one song to another.
I was amazed, and even though my daughter had fallen asleep on my shoulder during the last song I knew she liked it too because we were dancing when the BPMs were faster a few songs earlier.
The quality of arrangement, the depth of sound choices for the production, the breadth of emotion in the songwriting, it made my jaw drop six feet to the floor like I was some sort of cartoon character with elastic skin and detachable bones.
(And maybe I am? Maybe the real Björgvin is the cartoon character who writes these emails and you've all just been hapless attendees to a ten-year long performance piece with a twist ending).
Anyway...once I had attached my jaw back to my skull and stuffed my skin into its cheeks I thought, "my subscribers have to hear this! I demand it!"
So I want to invite you to hear this album at our live listening party this Friday at 1 PM PDT (4 PM Eastern).
We'll be premiering it live and we'll be hanging out in the live chat to discuss the production as you listen so make sure you subscribe to the
Youtube channel here and make sure you click the notifications to be reminded when we go live.
We'll have a link later in the week so stay tuned for that!
Oh, and before I forget...you must be thinking, "who is he talking about?!?"
Fair question.
The album is called Everybody Wants to Go Home by musical genius extraordinaire Ed Charles.
You may know him from our
Bedroom Producer Program we did together or as the resident coach in our
Insiders program. He's been a valuable part of the Audio Issues
community for years now, both as a student and a mentor.
He's a true artist through and through.
(And by the way, if you were offended by last week's open letter or last year's BLM response, you probably won't like the video he made to accompany his album so don't worry about showing up. In fact, just unsubscribe right now).
Of course, I don't host listening parties for just everyone.
You have to go through the
Mix Finisher Formula course and be an Insider to be considered, and even then I have to be so impressed with your music that I'm willing to promote it to my audience.
I have to independently like your music so much that even my Alexa will go "hey, here's your recently played, do you want to hear it again?"
And I'll go "don't be a stupid robot and just play my jams!"
That means that your music has to hit professional production standards and be "release-ready."
That's what you're trying to achieve right? That's what brought you to this newsletter.
So if you think your recordings and musical compositions are up to snuff but you feel like your mixes might be missing something, I'll help you learn everything you need to know inside the
Mix Finisher Formula.
And it's 30% off until Friday so it's a good time to enroll.
And if you think you have what it takes to have a listening party you can also join the Insider program by saying YES! to the upsell when you enroll in Mix Finisher Formula.
Word of advice: Say yes to the upsell.
At that point I'm all ears to hear your music and help you make your mixes sound as good as they can be.
Whatever you decide is fine with me, but make sure you join us on Friday because I guarantee you'll want to hear this album.
Have a great rest of your day!
